HOW IT ALL HAPPENED
When Dorinda emigrated to Australia from London with her husband and two small children, she had no idea what she was in for. Her children, being bi-racial, experienced vilification both verbal and physical, so instead of getting "even" Dorinda got EDUCATING! She asked her school if she could bring in the stories, fabrics, artifacts and food of her West African culture and invited parents and children to come and "learn" about her heritage and journey. Africa in Schools was born.
An instant success, Dorinda was asked to replicate this in schools all around South Australia and then beyond - all over Australia. The model was duplicated with other parents from European cultures and for many years, Dorinda motivated, educated and inspired young people and their parents.
Dorinda's unique persona and joy of life soon led to her now infamous career in Television and beyond, and she reached millions of viewers in over 48 countries with her 5 TV series on food and culture and her 7 books (two international best-sellers) that are still very popular to this day.
Now, those children are grown up and they are asking for Dorinda to come and show their children in schools how to connect with her diverse and interesting experiences traveling the world making documentaries.
With the advent of digital technology and the explosion of this technology over the internet, her ability to update and return Africa in Schools to the world has been an exciting shift, and now, extended to include many other cultures that make up the fabric of not only Dorinda's but our modern society's day-to-day.
The digital revolution into the classroom is taking place now and the pace is overwhelming, so it is only natural that Dorinda bring her much-loved hand of learning and friendship to the world online!
